Hello,

Reading your post, I most say it doesn't read happily!
First of all, if you want to give these critics, than have the guts to put them in English, so the people whom you are critisising can understand what you say.

It seems you didn't had a good experience in Tamale.
For the third time, I am working with CIDGhana now in Tamale, and I agree with you, it is not always easy. But if you want to give critics, than know what you are talking of. The people working in the office, have been working here for long, and have experience in development work, and have some valuable degrees availble as well.
Another thing, about the hostfamilies, yes, you pay money, and yes some of the hostfamilies have 'brothers and sisters' aged like volunteers, but in my experience, and other people's one, this is only a good thing. They show you around, you make friends your age, you go out, .. At least, that is what I did. Don’t mix your personal experience with the average impression of volunteers. Tamale, a booring city in the evenings ? Did you came to Tamale to go out than ? I thought you came to do voluntary work… But anyway, Tamale has places to go out, dance, have drinks, meet people (and I’m not speaking of Gidipass), but he, probably you didn’t wanted to go there with your hostbrother, afraid, he is going to hit on you…

You say ‘in my opinion, hostfamilies are picked by Peter…’ come and check to procedure… Not everybody can just be a hostfamily… if you would have asked questions, and not be assuming, you would have know that one… And please, hostfamilies feed on more than a dollar a day… If you have been gowing to market, you should now that you cannot by that much with 1 dollar…

Yes, there are plenty NGO’s in Tamale, and yes, some of them are maybe not ‘straight’ or how you want to say it, but if you have been to Tamale, you have seen CIDGhana’s work, so no reason to say that nothing is been done. And if you have doubts, come and talk to the people working, consult the budget, read the website, asks questions… but don’t base your criticsm on a one-side experience.

You say developmental work is a complex issue, I totally agree, than can you understand this complex issue by following a course which took 4 weekends ? It seems it takes a little bit longer to grasp the grassroot experience…

If you say Africa (please, Africa is a continent and not a country, you came to Ghana, you should have learned that on the BTC-course), should develop from the inside, than why did you came to Ghana as a volunteer, than why did you payed money into Ghana ?

This reaction may not sound so nice, but the same did yours, I just wanted to point you out on some things… My most important remark is however your language… Who’s speaking of neokolonialsm than ?

Feel free to keep to discussion going !

Greetz

Kaat
